316 stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion, which is why the standard for product contact surfaces on Rheo equipment is 316 stainless steel. The increased corrosion resistance of 316 stainless steel versus 304 stainless steel is due to the addition of molybdenum to the alloy, which improves the ability of the metal to resist corrosion from solvents and industrial chemicals.
